How to Create a Build

The builder is half the Practical Basketball skill curve. Height, wingspan, attributes, badges, and takeovers decide which dunks, contests, and dribble packages feel natural. This guide walks through a clean first build for early-access stress tests without chasing every attribute to 99.

After you lock a template, practice with How to Shoot, How to Dribble, and How to Dunk. Compare finished ideas on Scoring Builds and Two-Way Builds.

Step 1 — Pick a role

RoleHeight bandPrimary skills
Ball-handle guardlowerspeed, ball handle, mid / three
Wing scorermiddunk, mid, perimeter D
Stretch forwardmid-highthree, rebound, strength
Interior bighighinterior D, standing dunk, block

You can store multiple character slots — community notes often mention up to five — so experiment, but master one role per stress-test week.

Step 2 — Height, weight, wingspan

  • Taller unlocks contests and standing finishes but slows lateral movement.
  • Shorter accelerates handles and recovery on defense.
  • Wingspan boosts defense and finishing reach; extreme wingspans can hurt shot attributes.
  • Body type can subtly shift caps — watch the right-side preview while editing.

Step 3 — Attribute priorities

Do not max everything. Cap what your role needs:

Scoring slash guard

  • Driving dunk, speed, acceleration, ball handle, stamina
  • Mid-range before deep three if you struggle with moving shots
  • Enough perimeter D to not get hunted

Two-way wing

  • Perimeter D, lateral speed, steal, block
  • Solid driving dunk or standing dunk
  • Mid-range for punish opportunities

Stretch creator

  • Three-point and moving shot
  • Pass accuracy for kick-outs
  • Enough stamina to run offense

Use numeric checklists on Build Attribute Helper.

Step 4 — Badges and takeovers

Newer stress-test builds include badge categories (finishing, shooting, playmaking, defense) and takeovers such as Smooth Operator or Knockdown Shooter. Spend points on badges that match your shot diet — tunnel vision and formless shooter for creators, rim protection badges for locks. Details live on Takeovers & Badges.

Step 5 — Test before park wagers

Use any in-builder test court if available. Confirm:

  1. You can green a standing jumper — How to Shoot
  2. You can complete a driving dunk — How to Dunk
  3. Two dribble moves feel responsive — How to Dribble
  4. Stamina lasts a full possession chain

Common builder mistakes

  • Maxing three, dunk, and defense equally until nothing is elite
  • Ignoring stamina
  • Copying a YouTube height without matching your timing skill
  • Rebuilding every session instead of practicing one template
  • Forgetting pass accuracy on team-oriented guards

A mediocre build with great timing beats a 99 card with panic releases. Finish the builder, then put the hours into mechanics.

Rebuild policy during early access

Do not rebuild after every loss. Set a rule: one template for three full stress-test sessions unless the patch notes on Stress Test Notes explicitly change caps. When you do rebuild, change one axis only — height, or dunk versus three, or defense versus offense — so you can feel the difference.

Sample first-week plan

Day 1: create a mid-height wing with balanced dunk and mid-range using Build Attribute Helper.
Day 2: only practice standing greens from How to Shoot.
Day 3: only practice two dribbles from How to Dribble.
Day 4: only practice driving dunks from How to Dunk.
Day 5: play park and note whether you needed more stamina, more perimeter D, or more finishing.

Write those notes before opening the builder again. That habit beats copying a random YouTube card that does not match your timing.

Badge spending reminder

After attributes feel right, open Takeovers & Badges and spend in the category you actually used on Day 5. If you barely contested, do not buy lock badges yet. If you never posted, skip poster badges. Early-access badge boards reward honesty about your film, not wishlist shopping.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players ask before every park session.

How many builds can I make?

Community reports describe multiple character slots (often up to five). Confirm in the current stress-test builder UI.

Should beginners make a 99 everything build?

No. Cap a role, protect stamina, and practice timing before spreading points thin.

Where do I see meta examples?

Check Scoring Builds and Two-Way Builds, then adapt attributes to your timing skill.

Do badges matter in stress tests?

Recent early-access builds include badge and takeover systems. Match badges to how you actually shoot and defend.
